Mrjn, Discontent Dreamer

Jote

Mrjn is the youngest sister, she longs for freedom and deeply loves both of her sisters. After humes passed near the village disquiet grew within her. This prompted her to follow them. She was captured by Archadian soldiers and was left with nethicite. The soldiers insisted that it would be a fine way for her to die. Possessed by the mist she awakened the dragon Tiamat and was freed after Fran and party defeated it. She disagrees with Jote's isolationism and believes that Ivalice is changing. She longs to see the world, much like Fran.

I believe that Mrjn was also hurt by Fran leaving. I think, even, that she blamed Jote for Fran leaving in the end. For me this makes sense in so far as that Mrjn seems to echo some of Fran's ideas. She believes (with every fiber of her being) that Jote is merely being stubborn. I do not believe that she knows that it was ultimately Jote who gave the information to find her. I believe that she holds a particular admiration for her missing sister because she has spent so much time with Jote. In fact, I believe that Mrjn has a highly idealized view of the outside world that leads her to want to be like Fran, but she does not understand the trials or losses that Fran has encountered. I feel that Mrjn believes that things change and that they change for the better. Eruyt in comparison to Ivalice is very peaceful. I cannot blame Mrjn for wanting adventure, however, I do not believe that she sees everything that is in front of her.

I feel like Mrjn might be bored with her current situation and that she longs for change and new things in her life. She knows something is wrong when she follows the humes, this is why she felt a great disquiet stir within her. However, I think that most of her ideas are probably based in the fact that Fran survived and grew strong, so she can too. She seems to remember that Archadians tried to kill her, but she insists to Jote that the world of Ivalice is changing. She ignores her own peril to yell at her older sister. Ultimately, Fran tells her that she has but one sister left and leaves her to cry.

I get the idea that when Fran and Jote fought in the past that Mrjn was probably made to watch. Not intentionally, but I get the idea that she knew her sisters were fighting and that was a rift in their relationship. I think that after Fran left, Mrjn felt as though Jote could have done more. I already mentioned it, but I get the idea that Mrjn probably blamed Jote for Fran's leaving. Not wholly, but there was most likely some blame placed there. Later, when Fran tells her to stay in the village so that she is not isolated from her past and family, Mrjn doesn't seem to understand. She is young and adventerous, as I mentioned, she has a very particular outlook of Ivalice despite being captured and nearly killed. Seriously, the Archadians tried to kill her and all she thinks about is how stubborn Jote is. Seriously, child, you almost died! Listen to yourself. I don't agree with isolationism either, but think for a moment. Please, stop and THINK.

I think that she loves both Jote and Fran, but that she is tired of seeing their disagreements. With Jote being such an important figure in the village it must've been hard for Mrjn. She would be expected to uphold the same laws and live by the same strict guidelines. In fact, one Viera mentions she was surprised that Mrjn left. This leads me to believe that in general, Mrjn is very quiet and doesn't cause trouble. I also think that part of her desire to leave and travel was to reunite and be with Fran who had been gone for the last fifty years. In which case it didn't matter how terrible Ivalice or the humes were, she'd be reunited with Fran.

Viera sisters seem particulalry close. At Phon Cost the party can run into a Viera Wanderer. If Fran is party lead when the group speaks to her, she mentions that she left and her little sister followed. I think it is quite natural for Viera siblings to try and stick together. Another, viera, Ktjn follows her warrior sister to Rabanastre and spends some of her free time speaking to Vaan about the challenges she faces. Unlike her sister she is not a warrior. She does not want to be a burden, but she also wants to be with her sister. It is no suprise to me, then, that Mrjn want's desperately to follow after Fran.
